Training – Thursdays
Meeting at SturFit, in Sturminster Newton, 6.45pm for a 7pm start.
We normally run a structured training session, with an emphasis on catering for all levels of experience, by working in groups of similar ability and pace. Sessions are usually led by our Club Coach, Ian Pollard, (EA Coach in Running Fitness) club coaches Shams Wahab and Paul Russell (EA Coaches in Running Fitness) and/or other senior members with the EA Leader in Running Fitness qualification.
Using a variety of training methods and locations around the town and the surrounding lanes and trails, these sessions will help you improve your running technique, endurance and speed for more efficient and enjoyable running.
However you want to progress your running, whether for social enjoyment, improvement or in preparation for specific races or events (5/10K, Half/Marathon etc), our Thursday training evenings will help you develop your full running potential in a welcoming and like-minded training environment.
Changing rooms and showers are available for our use up to 8.45pm, by which time we must vacate the Sturfit facilities.
Winter Training – Tuesdays
During the winter months we run training sessions on Tuesday evenings in Shaftesbury. We meet at 6.45pm in the central town car park for a 6.50pm start.
These are also structured sessions normally led by one of our club coaches, similar in nature to our Thursday sessions, which can often take advantage of the famous Shaftesbury Hills. Session is suitable for all abilities.
There are also training sessions from the Sunrise Business Park in Blandford, organised by North Dorset Tri Club, which we are welcome to attend. They meet at 6.20pm for a 6.30pm start. Sessions will vary throughout the month, starting with 500m reps, then moving on to 1000m, 1500m and 2000m. For more details contact Lynda Faulkner.
While the evenings are light, between April and September, we organise our weekly ‘Tuesday Summer Runs’.
These runs are organised by a different Doddler each week in a variety of locations throughout the area. They are also great social occasions and we get to run through some beautiful Dorset countryside and coastal trails.
The usual format involves meeting at 7pm for a 7.15pm start, or slightly earlier in April and September. There will usually be a choice of two or three distances to suit different abilities and requirements on the night, ranging from about 4 to 9 miles.
See our ‘Summer Runs’ page for the weekly schedule of runs.
A Beginner, or returning to running?
Periodically we run a Couch to 5k course. This 10 week course on a Monday evening aims to help guide new or returning runners to become confident enough to continue their running on a regular basis, whether their goal is a 5k event, to join a permanent group or develop their general fitness and lifestyle.
See our ‘Couch to 5k’ page for further details of current courses.
