Stur Half

Thank you to everyone who came along and ran in this year’s Stur Half, we had 388 entries, 343 starters and 341 finishing, so well done everyone, hope you enjoyed it. See results above and also great race photos by Charles Whitton Photography.

With all the rain we had yesterday we were so pleased to see the sun come out for us on race day.

We also had 37 runners in the 5k and 12 children running in the children’s races.

Thanks to our main sponsor Honeybuns and the other local businesses that support us, plus all the marshals and water stations out on the course.

Date for next year is Sunday 4th August 2024, hope to see a lot of you again.

STUR HALF RESULTS …

A Road Race organised in accordance with UKA rules – Permit No.  2023-44705 / Course measurement cert: South 23/294

The race will start at 10.30am from Station Road (DT10 1BB) in Sturminster Newton, North Dorset and the route follows country lanes in and around Sturminster Newton.

Race admin… will be in at Sturminster Newton High School (DT10 1DT).

The main race car park… The main car park will be at Sturminster Newton High School (DT10 1DT), marshals will direct you to the car parking. For safety please follow their directions.

Refreshments… This year we have invited the Really Tiny Coffee Company and Pinkys Gluten Free to help you refuel after your run. You will also be able to get a refreshing real ale, cider or a glass of wine from our beer tent. Plus tea, coffee, soft drinks and ice cream.

Showers and changing… Sorry, we do not have showers this year.

The Presentation… will be held on the school field, near the finish, at approximately 1pm, we have many great prizes to giveaway – please stay and enjoy the post race atmosphere.

Our main sponsor… We are delighted that once again the race is sponsored by Honeybuns, who make wonderful gluten free cakes that everyone loves, you will receive one of these after you cross the finish line. The race will also be supported by many other local businesses.

What is on the course and a few Race Rules…

Please note that we are an EARPHONE FREE RACE – We want you to enjoy the race, so please do not wear your headphones – you will be disqualified if you do!

Water stations… around the course you should find plenty of water – so if it is a hot day please use them to avoid suffering from dehydration. There are 7 water stations. Don’t forget also to make sure you are well hydrated before the start!

The routes… will be marshalled by volunteers from the Blackmore Vale Lions Club, the Doddlers and friends, and residents around the course.

This is a road race… The marshals will warn traffic, but we have no right of way over cars, tractors etc – so please take care and follow instructions from the marshals. Unless otherwise directed, run on the LEFT HAND SIDE of all the main roads.

Time limit and restrictions… The Stur Half has a time limit of 3 hours and the course is quite narrow in some points so it is not suitable for wheelchair athletes or runners with pushchairs for safety reasons.

Due to Dorset Road Race Rules dogs are not permitted to run in this race.

Be prepared and check the forecast… the day is normally a very hot one, so consider wearing loose clothing and a hat to keep you cool. Another tip is to keep moving after you finish the race and have a drink and something to eat soon afterwards. That does not mean going straight to the Beer tent!

Don’t forget you must be 17 and over to run the half marathon and over 13 for the 5K.
