About the Dorset Doddlers

Origins

The Dorset Doddlers Running Club have been running around in circles since 1983. The club was originally formed by a small group of runners who had just completed their first London Marathon and now has well over 100 members drawn from all over the county.

training

Our main training sessions are held on Thursday at 7pm at Sturminster Newton Lesuire Centre. All our sessions are designed to cater, as far as possible, for mixed ability groups. See our training section for details of all our training sessions.

On Tuesday evenings during the winter we meet at 6.30pm at Blandford Forum Leisure Centre. There is also a Shaftesbury Hill Session on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month throughout winter training.

When the clocks change to BST, the Tuesday training is replaced by our 'Summer Runs', starting from various Pubs and beauty spots throughout Dorset.

Longer organised group runs often take place on Sunday mornings, particularly in the months preceding Spring Marathons.

We also have a 'Beginners and Improvers' group who meet at 6.15pm on Thursdays at Sturminster Newton Leisure Centre. For more information please go to our Facebook page.

Internal Club Races

During the year, we hold several internal races on our Thursday Training night, such as the 'Broad Oak Hilly', 'Suzy Vivian Hill Climb', 'John Deacon Handicap', 'Duathlon' (Run and Cycle) and the 'Sturminster 5'. Please note these races are only for club members.

During the year we also have two ongoing competitions, the 'Club Handicap' and our age related 'Club Championship'.

Club Races

The Doddlers have been organising races for many years, with 'The Stur Half' and 'The Stickler' both regularly attracting over 400 runners.

This year we have added two more races, the North Dorset Village Marathon (NDVM) and The Wessex Ridgeway Relay

We are an inclusive and social bunch, who welcome runners of all abilities. If you are new to the area or new to running, you are most welcome to come and try us out. Whatever your goals are in running, our ethos is to encourage , improve and enjoy running.

How to join

Feel free to print off a membership form from our membership page or email our secretary via our contact page.
